On December 2, the Preliminary Speech Contest “U.K. in My Eyes” was held as scheduled. Vice President, Dean of the Department of English Professor Zhu Shichang attended the event and among the members of the panel of the judges were Mr. Shen Hui, Miss Wang Beibei, Miss Li Xiaolin and Mr. Xia Yangyang. The sophomore students took part in this event and they were all looking forward to enjoying the wonderful speeches by the contestants.
26 contestants were competing with each other. Every contestant got fully prepared for this event by searching for the relevant materials, which included “customs, wayof life and thinking”, showing the diversified aspects of the British culture. Every student was completely immersed in such an animated atmosphere and they said they had really benefited a great deal from such activities, broadening their horizons of the British culture and deepening their understanding of the country.
15 contestants were chosen to participate in the final round of the speech contest and we are all looking forward to their outstanding performance when we meet them again in the final round.
